VQI Summer Sports Series

A summer of queer community, connection, and a little healthy competition.

What to Expect

After many request, the VQI Summer Sports Series is back for another summer of community, movement, and fun across Vancouver. From volleyball lessons and scenic seawall cycles to paddleboarding evenings and our School Sports Day finale, the series is designed to create low-pressure, welcoming opportunities for queer folks and friends to get active, meet new people, and enjoy the city together throughout the summer months. All events are open to all skill levels, with a focus on participation, connection, and having a laugh along the way.

As part of the series, VQI will also be offering subsidised pricing and discounted rentals for members where possible, helping keep events accessible and affordable. Registration for each event opens approximately three weeks beforehand, so be sure to save the dates in your calendar.

Members can also stay up to date by joining the VQI WhatsApp Community or subscribing to the VQI events calendar to make sure you don’t miss registration announcements. Information on how to sign up to the VQI WhatsApp Community or Google Calendar can be found in your welcome email or in the most recent newsletter.

  • Kickoff VQI's Summer Sports Series with us and join us for a guided sunset kayak tour from Jericho Beach on June 17th at 7.30pm.

Enjoy stunning mountain views, and fantastic views of the Vancouver skyline, all the while the sky turns orange and the sun sets right into the sea.

Pricing for VQI members is just $27 ($65 for non-members).

Spaces around limited, so book your spot before the tour fills up.

  • As part of the VQI Summer Sports Series, join us on July 2nd at Sunset Beach for a fun and welcoming Volleyball Lesson open to all skill levels — whether you’ve never touched a volleyball before or already love the game. Come out for an evening of community, movement, and summer fun by the beach while meeting other queer folks in a relaxed and supportive environment.

    Sign up opens June 11th.

  • Join VQI for a scenic Seawall Cycle starting in Coal Harbour as we make our way around Stanley Park before finishing back at the bike rental location. This relaxed group ride is open to all experience levels and is a great way to enjoy Vancouver’s waterfront, get active, and connect with community during the summer.

VQI will be covering the cost of bike rentals for any members who need one.

    Sign up opens June 26th.

  • Join VQI on August 20th for an afterwork Paddleboard Evening at Jericho Beach as part of our Summer Sports Series. Whether you’re a seasoned paddleboarder or trying it for the first time, this relaxed summer meetup is open to all skill levels and is the perfect way to enjoy the water, unwind after work, and connect with community.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own paddleboard, though VQI is currently working on securing discounted rental rates for members.

    Sign up opens July 30th.

  • We’re wrapping up the VQI Summer Sports Series with a School Sports Day Evening on August 28th in Stanley Park beside the brewery. Inspired by classic Irish school sports days, expect a fun mix of nostalgic games, light competition, and plenty of chaos in the best way possible — all in a relaxed and welcoming environment open to everyone.

We’ll also have pizza and food provided for members as we celebrate the end of another summer together with community, laughs, and a bit of friendly rivalry.

    Sign Up Opens July 24th
